Learn anything at your level.
My Level is a study connector for Claude. Claude remembers your level and what you have learned, checks that each explanation fits you before you read it, and asks you about old topics just before you would forget them.
Free. Made for Claude's free plan: 3 small tools, so it is light on your messages. No account, and nothing is stored on our side.
What you can do with it
Say it in your own words. Some of the things you can use it for, and what Claude does each time.
Understand today's lesson
“We did osmosis in biology today and I didn't get it. Explain it with My Level.”
Claude links osmosis to what is already on your card, writes the explanation, and checks it against your level before you see it. Then it asks you one or two short questions to see if it landed.
Five minutes of review a day
“Study with My Level.”
Claude opens your card and asks about the topics due today, the ones you are most likely to forget first. A right answer pushes a topic further away; a miss brings it back tomorrow.
Get ready for a test
“My chemistry test is on 20 November. Add that to my card and help me revise.”
The goal goes on your card. Each session starts with your weakest topics, and Claude goes back to the mistakes you made before, because the card remembers them.
Stuck on homework
“I got x = 4 but the answer at the back says x = 6. Where did I go wrong?”
Claude finds the first wrong step in your own working and gives you a hint, not the answer. The mistake goes on your card, so the next review checks it.
Too hard, or too easy
“That was too hard. / That was too easy, you can go faster.”
Your level moves one step down or up on the card, and every explanation after that is checked against the new level.
New chat, new day, your phone
“Study with My Level. (Or paste your card.)”
With memory on, Claude brings your card back by itself. If it does not, paste the copy you kept in your notes, and you carry on where you stopped. One card holds all your subjects.
How it works
Three tools, and one small card. Below is the connector's real output for a grade 9 student revising biology.
Your learner card remembers you
Your year, your level, how you like things explained, your goal, and every topic with its key idea and the last mistake you made. It is plain text you can read. Claude's memory keeps it as a few short lines, and you keep the full copy in your notes.
LEARNER CARD (My Level) · updated 2026-10-31 Stage: grade 9 · Level: 3 of 6 Likes: examples first, short steps Goal: biology test on 20 Nov Topics (box 1–5 · next review · key idea · last slip): - Photosynthesis | box 2 | review 2026-11-03 | idea: Plants use light to turn water and carbon dioxide into sugar, and give off oxygen. - Osmosis | box 1 | review 2026-11-01 | idea: Water moves through a membrane towards the side with more dissolved stuff. | slip: thought the dissolved stuff moves, not the water
Reviews come back before you forget
Each topic sits in a box from 1 to 5. Get it right and it moves up a box and comes back later: after 1, 3, 7, 16, 35 days. Miss it and it goes back to box 1, tomorrow. A session starts with what is due, weakest first, at most five.
Student: grade 9. Level 3 of 6 (age 14–16). How to explain: Plain sentences. Start with an example, then the rule. Define each subject word the first time. One worked example. Sentences up to 18 words; reading grade 8 or below. They like: examples first, short steps. Working towards: biology test on 20 Nov. Knows: Photosynthesis, Osmosis. Past slips to watch for: Osmosis (thought the dissolved stuff moves, not the water). Reviews due today (2): ask one short recall question each, from the key idea, before anything new. Wait for each answer. - Osmosis (box 1): Water moves through a membrane towards the side with more dissolved stuff. - Photosynthesis (box 2): Plants use light to turn water and carbon dioxide into sugar, and give off oxygen. Then ask what they want to learn, or go on with their question. Record results with update_card at the end.
Explanations are checked against your level
Before Claude sends an explanation, the connector measures it in code: how hard it reads, how long the sentences are, and whether every new word is explained where it first appears. If it is too hard, Claude rewrites it.
REWRITE: level 3 (age 14–16); 45 words, 2 sentences, reading grade 19.9 (aim 8). - It reads at grade 19.9; aim for 8 or below (age 14–16). Use shorter sentences and everyday words. - Split this sentence (over 18 words): "Cellular respiration is the catabolic metabolic pathway through which …" (31). - Explain "mitochondria" where it first appears: say what it is in a few words, or in brackets after it. - "ATP" is listed as a new word but does not appear; drop it from terms or use it. - Maybe hard at this level: respiration, catabolic, metabolic, molecules, adenosine, universal. Use a simpler word or explain it. Rewrite with these fixes and check again (at most twice), then send the best version.
PASS: level 3 (age 14–16); 56 words, 7 sentences, reading grade 3.1 (aim 8). Send it, then ask one or two check questions and wait for the answers.
Six levels
Your level comes from what you tell Claude: a grade or class, your age, matric, O or A levels, FSc, university. You can change it any time by saying an explanation was too hard or too easy.
| Level | For | Reads at grade | Longest sentence |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | age 8–10 | 4 or below | 12 words |
| 2 | age 11–13 | 6 or below | 15 words |
| 3 | age 14–16 | 8 or below | 18 words |
| 4 | age 16–18 | 10 or below | 20 words |
| 5 | university | 12 or below | 24 words |
| 6 | expert | 14 or below | 28 words |
Add it to Claude
Two minutes, once. After that it is in every chat, on the web and in the Claude apps.
Connector URL
https://www.devscratchpad.tech/my-level/mcp- 01Open Customize → Connectors in Claude and choose Add custom connector.
- 02Name it My Level, paste the URL and press Add. Claude notes that anyone with the URL can use it: that is expected, because there is no account and nothing of yours is kept there.
- 03On the free plan Claude allows one custom connector. If another one is already there, remove it first; you can add it back later.
- 04Turn on memory in Claude's settings, so Claude can bring your card back in a new chat.
- 05Start a chat and say “Study with My Level”, or pick it from + → My Level. Claude asks three quick questions (your year, what you are studying for, how you like explanations) and makes your card. The first time it uses a tool it asks your permission; all three only read what Claude sends them, so you can allow them.
Questions
Something else? Email support@devscratchpad.tech.
- Is it free?
- Yes. My Level is free, and it works on Claude's free plan as well as the paid ones.
- Will it do my homework?
- No, on purpose. It explains, asks you questions and gives hints on your own working, so you learn it rather than hand in Claude's work.
- Where is my card kept?
- In Claude's memory, if you turn it on, and in the copy you keep. Memory takes short lines, so Claude saves the card as a few "My Level card" lines with your level, goal and every topic's next review; the key ideas and past mistakes stay in your copy. We do not keep it: the connector reads the card Claude sends, changes it, sends it back and forgets it. We log only which tool was called, to count use.
- Claude forgot my card. Now what?
- Paste the copy you kept, from the line that starts with LEARNER CARD to the last topic, and say “Study with My Level”. Nothing is lost as long as you have that copy.
- Does it work in other languages?
- Claude can explain in any language. The reading-grade measure is for English; in other languages the connector still checks sentence length and that new words are explained.
- Claude did not check its explanation.
- Claude decides when to use a tool. Say “check that with My Level” and it will, or start with “Study with My Level” so it follows the whole routine.
- What should I not put on the card?
- Your full name, school, phone number or anything private. The card only needs your year, your level and your topics.
Start with one topic you found hard this week.
